President Cyril Ramaphosa recently addressed the country on the Covid-19 situation following the report of a new Covid-19 variant.

Ramaphosa announced that the country will remain on lockdown level 1 and that the National State of Disaster should remain in place. This will be reviewed after a week.
Ramaphosa did not ban large gatherings but urged for large gatherings to be changed to online events, be avoided or postponed. Where gatherings are held, Covid-19 safety regulations should be kept.
Ramaphosa said one of the most powerful tools against the coronavirus is vaccination.
He added that a task team has been set up to look at making vaccinations mandatory for certain sectors.
